Giving Circles Network Establishes Internet Presence
08/11/2005 -- The Giving Circles Network (GCN), a
non-profit organization, established an internet presence in April
2005 in response to the rapid growth of hundreds of geographically
dispersed giving circles. These giving circles seek to engage and
serve their communities directly, each operating individually.
While the monetary and in-kind contributions of these giving circles
is impressive, the goal of GCN is further support and enhance the
impact of these neighborhood organizations as well as support the
emergence of more such organizations from individuals similarly
seeking to have greater involvement in their giving. With the rise
in the last five years of more than 220 giving circles nationwide
and considerable funding strength, GCN identified a need support and
enhance the networking, leveraging and impact of these
organizations, the causes they promote, and the wide variety of
organizations that they fund both in the U.S. and overseas. The
reason is to enable these grassroots philanthropic organizations to
make their donations more meaningful, which is a subjective term
that can be different for every circle, but which -- through a
network form of organization such as GCN -- translates into enabling
giving circles to more easily and effectively meet their giving
goals and objectives.
